Keep the schema honest
Posts, categories, and a pivot table. Slugs generated once and never silently regenerated, because a changing URL is an SEO bug wearing a helpful disguise.
Where the speed comes from
- Cache rendered post bodies rather than re-parsing markdown per request.
- Eager load relations on index pages to kill N+1 queries.
- Serve responsive image sizes generated at upload time.
The editing side
The most valuable feature was the least exciting one: a preview that renders exactly what production renders. Everything else was decoration.
